JUVENILE NEWS

Our annual summer camp took place on Monday 17th & Wednesday 19th July! Even though we had to call off camp on 18th due to torrential rain we still had an exciting and action packed Summer Camp. 160 children aged between 6-14 took part and we had an army of enthusiastic coaches and mentors to ensure everyone had a fantastic time.

The children were put through their paces each day participating in Sprints, High Jump, Long Jump, Shot Putt, Javelin, Discus, Hurdles, Obstacles, Strength & Conditioning, Games and Yoga....there was definitely something for everyone and no better time to try a new event!

Our final day concluded with a colour steeple chase and a visit from the ice-cream man. Massive thanks to all the organisers and volunteers without them, wonderful events like summer camp would not be possible. The atmosphere at camp was testament to how fun and inclusive LSA truly is.

Just a small selection of the fantastic feedback from parents ...

Some photos to give a tiny snapshot of the incredible atmosphere....

TRACK & FIELD

National Juvenile Championships

We were delighted to have a number of our LSA athletes in action at the the National Juvenile Championships.

First up was Eliza Hussain in U14 discus in her first National appearance. A best of 18:76m clinched 8th place and some valuable experience for Eliza at this level.

Next up we’re our 400m runners, Michelle Branigan U18 and Eabha O’Farrell U17. A 1:09.03 for Michelle claimed 5th place in her heat just missing out on qualification for the final. A similar story for Eabha with 5th in her heat in 1:03.31 missing out on the final by the narrowest of margins.

Eabha now turned her attention to the very competitive U17 hammer competition. A very nice progression of throws produced a best of 37:51, enough for fourth place and a little unlucky not to challenge for third.

Back on track, Sinéad O’Farrell was warming up for her U18 3000m final. In tough conditions Sinéad maintained a consistent pace and crossed at 11i:47.68 for 11th place.

Well done to all our athletes .

Louth U20/Senior/Master Championships

A warm welcome and a well run event, not to mention a beautiful evening was assured at the Louth U20/Senior/Master Championships.

Two of our oldies Enda Gavigan and Xavi Hubert attended, accompanied by the ever youthful Dara Carr, all anxious to scorch up the tartan once more ahead of the National Masters in August.

And a useful outing it proved to be with Xavi posting a 13:51 PB in the 100, Enda a 13:38, Xavi a 27:08PB in 200, Enda a not too shabby 27:32 with Dara completing the 400 lap in 1:14.56 having just tossed a 5.12m best in the Shot. So not looking to bad ahead of the National in August!

National Senior Championships Morton Stadium 30th July

Anna Gavigan represented LSA at the premier event of the season to defend the National Ladies Senior Discus Title she won last year. The day certainly presented its challenges for the throws events with wet and slippery conditions underfoot.

It was a close run competition, Anna acquitted herself very well with a best of 47.08m to claim the Silver with Gold going to the highly experienced senior, Raheny’s Niamh Fogarty with a best of 49.77m.

Anna now packs her bags to head for Jerusalem with the National U20 squad for the European U20 Championships where she will represent Ireland in Discus. Guided by Senior Coach Gerry Ronan, Anna has had a great run of success recently, winning the National Senior Schools Championship and National U20 Championship in recent weeks, setting a new National U20 record in the process.

This will undoubtedly be her toughest event to date, coming up against the very best Europe has to offer. Wishing her the best of luck ☘ and a huge thank you to coach Gerry Ronan for his tireless commitment to the athletes in his group.
